My views on game journalism are that you should never trust what the reviewers have said because if it is a game or a series of games that you have followed and enjoyed for years and it is the sequel then get it.
Most game reviewers write about crap like if it lives up to the determined genres expectations but sometimes forget to realise that this game may be the developers interpretation of that genre. Most of the review is crap and only some important bits are actually mentioned like the story, the characters and even the art used to create the world and it inhabitants oh and also the gameplay, well those are the important bits for me anyway.
Now on to the important stuff, I think the issues facing reviewers are for one not trying to completely insult the developers if the game is totally atrocious , keeping the audience or the gamer in mind so that the fully understand what the reviewer is trying to say about certain aspects of the game. Some of the content used as well like that review on Rez for the PS2 where he talks about the vibrating thing that came with the game in a sexual way this may insult people and cause many other problems but otherwise i think it is genius and funny.
The people who pay their wages are the publisher of the magazine they are writing for.
The ranking system for games does have a big tie in with the sales of computer games because most people follow what is said and never decide well I’m going to ignore that and get the game because that is a view of a particular person not you. Is it feasible yes because it works.
